Lots of Sailing in 2010 including a new Club Championships.
Happy new year to everyone!
The memories of 2009 are now fast receding and it with a huge sense of anticipation that we look forward to 2010 and beyond. All the dates for the 2010-11 season are already on the website, and Bough Beech members will also receive a full fixtures list, but many of you will be planning your season now, so here are some of the highlights.
Race Series
There are nine club race series and we start the year with the Icicle, our annual open series offering some of the best racing around for club members and visitors alike. It kicks off on 3rd January and runs for eight weeks. We then go straight into the Spring Series, starting on 28th February and forming the backbone of the clubs handicap racing for the spring. In May, having completed the current Winter Short Course Series, we start the Summer Short Course Series 2010. This starts on 16th May and continues until September, with four races usually on each of the the third Sundays in each month. Also in May we start the Summer AM Series and the Summer PM Series. The first race in each takes place on 23rd May and this runs through until the end of August.
Summer also sees the start of the Thursday Evening Series, a slightly more informal series which is growing in popularity amongst club members. This starts on 3rd June and runs for consecutive Thursdays. Once everyone returns from their Summer holidays, and the club has recovered from the excitement of cadet week, we start the Autumn AM and Autumn PM Series. The first race in each takes place on 5th September and each runs through until December. 17th October sees the start of the Winter Short Course Series which takes us right through into 2011, stopping briefly for next years Icicle.
New Club Championship
Of course, alongside all of this there are Club Regattas, offering something for sailors of all ages and abilities and in 2010 we are especially delighted to introduce a new regatta in the form of a two day event for club members. This new "Club Championships" will take place over the weekend of 8th and 9th May and the emphasis will be on creating a challenging event, worthy of its name, yet also with a strong youth and junior participation too. Something to train for then, over the Winter.
In 2010 Bough Beech will also have a varied selection of open meetings catering for all the major classes sailed at the club, and Open Training events too.
The club is also set amongst some of the most exquisitely beautiful countryside and this, combined with the excellent clubhouse facilities, easy launching from the nearby dinghy park, and friendly galley, make sailing at the club a really pleasurable experience. We would go as far as saying, the finest sailing in the south east. Why not come along and judge for yourself?
2010 therefore offers something for everyone. So if your new years resolution is to get into racing, or back into racing, or sailing more or even just into sailing, then come along. There really is nothing to stop you.
